Yesterday is gone and a new day is upon us. There is something special, beautiful even, about the morning of a new day. Each new day comes with God’s new mercies ready to meet us right where we are and ready to carry us through the new day. We can count on God’s new mercies meeting us just like we count on the rising sun each new day. God is faithful! As the Scriptures say God’s mercies are new every morning. Great is God’s faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
So when the promise of a son, “Immanuel” (which means ‘God is with us’) was given to the prophet Isaiah 700 years before Jesus arrived on the scene, it was only a matter of time before this promise would be fulfilled. Jesus fulfilled this promise and showed us how God is truly with us in our pain, in our suffering, in our mess. God was with the women at the well, Jesus knew what was going on in the depth of her soul without her saying a word. God was with the women caught in adultery, Jesus stepped in, silenced her condemners and invited her into community. Jesus leaned in and touched lepers, ate with sinners, was a friend to all.
The same is true for us today, Jesus steps into our lives without thought of our past, without thought of our mess and Jesus leans in to love us well. Jesus joins us on our journey and invites us to experience all that He has for us! He invites us to Know God, Find Freedom, Discover Purpose and Make a Difference.
This is the heart, the vision, the mission of Journey Church. God is calling us to follow the example Jesus provided for us. In the same way that God joins us on our journey we are called to join people on their journey. In the same way that God invites us to experience all that He has for us we are called to invite others to experience all that God has for them.
So, as you rest in God’s love for you today, receive His new mercies… Be encouraged by the wonderful truth that GOD IS WITH YOU! You are not alone! God loves you and is faithful to fulfill all of His promises in your life! Keep believing, keep drawing near to God and remember that He is always with you!
My prayer:
Just as God is with us may we be challenged to demonstrate this truth to the world around us. This morning I pray not just for you but also for all those that God inspires you to journey with… Use us Lord in great ways on this day and in the days to come, in Jesus’ name, amen.
We journey together, John & Emily
